Licensing authority

WTGS-TV, virtual and VHF digital channel 3, is an ABC owned-and-operated television station licensed to Texaville, Ohio, United States. The station is owned by the ABC Owned Television Stations subsidiary of ABC/Universal.

History[]

In 1948, the Texaville News-Bulletin secured a construction permit for channel 3, naming its proposed station WTNB-TV after the newspapers WTNB radio stations. The picture changed drastically on July 12, 1951, when the The Texaville Star folded. The Bulletin inherited the Star's "goodwill", along with the rights to buy radio station WTXC.

It secured a CBS affiliation through the influence of the Shoreman siblings, who continued to work for the paper as consultants. WTXC radio had been a CBS Radio affiliate since it signed on in 1930.
